We did it for the T-Shirt!

It was July 1999. I was 27, weighed in at 230lbs and had a hard time going up the stairs. My good friend Derek and I registered for the Massey Half Marathon. When we picked up our race kits the night before the run, I noticed that the full marathon T shirts were a lot nicer than the half marathon T shirts. Leaning over the registration table, I remember looking up at Derek and telling him "We gotta get those full marathon T shirts eh?" He agreed and the rest is history. That gruelling 5 hour + run with absolutely no training but pure determination was the spark to start a dramatic lifestyle change for Derek and I. Since our inaugral run together, Derek has gone on to complete many more marathons and ultras and I on the other hand am the proud winner of the 2008 Massey Marathon Clydesdale (200lb +) division!

Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the staircase.

I love that both of you had that Let's-Get-'er-Done attitude about 26+ miles!
